Cash, Bank and Contra Entries in TallyPrime
Contra is intended for movement between the business own cash and bank accounts. Keeping these transfers separate from expense or receipt vouchers makes cash and bank books easier to reconcile.
Typical Contra entries
- Cash deposited into bank
- Cash withdrawn from bank
- Transfer between two company bank accounts
What Contra is not
Payments to suppliers, customer receipts and business expenses normally belong in their respective Payment or Receipt workflows rather than being treated as internal transfers.
Reconciliation benefit
Clear Contra entries make it easier to match bank statement transfers and identify genuine income or expense transactions.
